About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

air china Melb to Lon via Bejing and hidden transit in Shanghi is a visa required for Australian?

There is a confirmed onward ticket to London and only 90 min stopover covering 2 dates (over midnight period) well under 24 hours or 72 hours. Air china said no visa is required and you could make 2 or less stops and said we would be returning to same aircraft, but Chinese consulate said to check with travel agent, travel agent said maybe it was needed as there are 2 stops. I am worried because not sure if this is classified as direct transit to 3rd country and cant find on official web site you can stop in Shanghai and Beijing in less than 24 hours.
Please help

Hi, visa is not required if your stopovers in total are less than 24 hours. This is an old Chinese policy which applies to all transit passengers regardless of nationalities.
