Do I need to submit a detailed itinerary to ontain a travel visa?

I was planning on meeting another friend in Shanghai and we will then spend three weeks traveling around the country visiting some of the tourist site; Beijing, Xian, Chengdu etc . We were planning on organizing our trip details and timing when we meet up in Shanghai. So is it possible to obtain a tourist L without submitting a travel itinerary?

Hi, I think if you have flight tickets and the confirmation of accommodation reservation. You can just write an itinerary of your trip including places of visit, date of entry and exit, etc. The itinerary is required if you do not have invitation letter from a travel agency.
