About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Can I then fly to Shanghai and use the 72 transit stop and then fly direct back to Sydney?

If I am travelling from Sydney then staying in Hong Kong

Yes, it is ok if your itinerary is Sydney-HK-Shanghai-Sydney. Make sure arrange tickets before arriving at Shanghai airport.
