About:Chinese Embassy in U.K.

I want to explore China for as long as possible...

...can I just get a 6 month tourist visa and ramble at my leisure? Are there minimum funds to be had in the bank, hotels to be pre-booked etc?

Hi, a single entry allows 30 days stay. But it can be extended within China twice with 60 days more. Round-trip ticket and hotel reservation are required for application. Bank statement is not required for the first application in UK, but it is required when you apply extension. The rate should be USD 100 per day. To apply for multiple entry tourist L, previous Chinese visas are required. That is to say, you can not get it if you visit for the first time.
