Does a Chinese Passport holder resident overseas require a permit to enter HK and Macau?

We are planning on flying to Hong Kong from Dubai and spend 5 nights in Hong Kong and then 3 nights in Macau before returning to HK and travelling to the Mainland to visit family. My wife is a resident of Australia and UAE but holds a Chinese passport. WE have all flights and accomodation booked and paid for. Myself and children are Australians.

Yes, you need to apply for an entry permit from the Chinese embassy before reaching HK. And I think you should apply for a double entry permit because you will get back to HK from Macau.

People who hold Chinese passports and valid visas or resident permits for the third countries can stay in Macau for 7 days at most. I think your wife can stay in Macau without applying for the entry permit.

Thanks for the reply. We submitted all the paperwork this morning at the Chinese Consulate in Dubai and the person we spoke too was not entirely sure about Macau requirements. But they are issuing the ncessary permission for my wife to enter Hong Kong so that is a good start.
