About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

We are in the country for 76hrs what can we do?

We have been told that the 72hr transit time is counted from the first midnight you are in China. In this case we would be eligable for the 'transit permit'. Is this right?

If this is the case then is it necessary to inform our airline about this transit ime in order to get the permit on arrival to China?

The 72 hours is counted from the moment visitors get their transit permits, but not the time when they land at the airport. However, different airlines may have different policies. Some airlines calculate it based on scheduled landing and scheduled departure of the flights.

Then you can calculate how long you will stay in China. If it is longer than 72 hours, better apply for a G type one in advance.
