Changing Temporary Visa for Permanent Residence

I have an L type good for 6 months and renewable every 6 months. My wife is Chinese and is a permanent resident of China. Her and her brother started a consulting company and want to hire me as the Chief Consultant for the company because I have been providing technical consultancy to Chinese manufacturing companies since 2005 travel between USA and China every 6 months previously.

I have been living in Nanning, Guangxi, China since 2010 with my wife and during that time I previously had an F type, so I had to constantly leave China every 60 days, until I decided to change it to an L type to allow me to stay 6 months instead 60 days with multiple entries.

I want to change my L type for a Permanent Residence or get a Temporary one for longer than 1 year, e.g., 3 or years. Preferably permanent. How can I do this based on what I explained above.

You may try to apply for the permanent residence for spouse union. Here is the detailed requirements:

Thanks Frank! But I need a response from the professionals of this site, not someone who has no cognizant and intricate knowledge of China's immigration laws and is not a Chinese national.

The link you provided is only for foreigners meeting 5 years residency status and is not directly applicable to my situation as I described in my post.

I need response specific to my situation.

Hi Snyder, I don't think you can get a permanent residence now. Also, the temporary residence is issued with validity of no more than 1 year. BTW, if you will work in China, the correct type should be work Z and temporary residence linked with the working contract (it needs to be renewed every year).

My work is not same as how many expats currently are employed in China. I have already been doing consulting work here in China since 2005 on 5 active contracts with customers, not employers. According to the local Exit and Entry Bureau, they told me I do not need a Z for work because I am not working as an employee, but as a technical advisor.

To avoid leaving every 30 or 60 days with my previous F, I had it changed to an L, but was only given a 6-month duration with multiple entry. I did this because I am married to a Chinese.

So, my question is how to get permanent or temporary visa longer than 1 year.

Brad if you are not a representative of Travel China Guide, then sorry, but I need one of their experts to respond to my posts. Not other expats or travellers not in similar situation as I am.
