Do I need to do visa?

Hi I'm holding a US passport. I'm leaving LAX to BKK but stopover at Shanghai(PVG) for 15 hours. I would like to go out and explore Shanghai a bit. Do I need to ask for Visa for that? Thank you so much!!

You won't be required for a visa but you need to apply for a stay permit when you arrive since you plan to get out of the airport.
