Chinese Tourism Visa Application and Booked Accommodations

I plan on sightseeing in China for 3 weeks, for my tourism application would I need all my accommodations booked before hand to apply if I don't have an invitation?

No, it is not necessary to book all for the whole trip. Reservation for few nights is acceptable, and generally you will be issued an L with a duration of 30 days.

Yes. If you visit mainland China, you should book round flights and hotel reservation for mainland China.

So if I were to fly into Hong Kong but also have hotel reservations in Shenzen would that be enough?
