travel time by car from beijing to jinshanling

Question

Could you please tell me the time it takes to go to JSL from the Chaoyang District in Beijing and the return time.  We wish to make a full one excursion to JSL in mid May and would like to know when we should depart the hotel in Chaoyang (in order to have six to eight hours at the destination) and how long to plan for our return trip. For your convenience, I advise you to take the special tourist bus at Dongzhimen bus terminus to the spot. The special tourist bus leaves at 07:30 and back at 14:40. It operates on weekends and statutory holidays. The bus journey is about 2.5~3 hours. You'd better leave your hotel before 6am.

I just did this the other day.  Take the tourist bus from Dongzhimen, it is only $120 RMB and includes tolls and Wall entrance fees. The bus ride lasts 2 hours and departs at 8:00 AM.  You then hike around on your own and must be back to the bus by 3:00 PM.  Totally worth it.  Driving in Beijing is horrible, leave it to the bus driver.

Hi Keith,Please refer above to my answer to Ahmad from Malaysia.In short - the travel time is 2hours driving from Beijing centre, 130kms single trip.  It is a very easy drive along one highway (Beijing-Chengde) and there are tolls (65yuan i think each way).Enjoy!

Tourist bus to Jinshanling on Saturday- where exactly the bus is?Is it at the Dongzhimen long-distance bus terminal?There was a tourist mentioned that this Jinshanling tourist bus park at 东直门外斜街 45号 (45 Dongzhimen Wai Xie Jie) which is a long distance bus terminal.
