Walk Jinshanlin to Simatai

Is it possible to hike from Jinshanli straight to Simatai, or do you need to take a bus?

Also, is wild camping permitted on Simatai on nights when there are no night tours?

It seems impossible to reach on foot because the two places are 24km apart. No public transportation is available to travel between, so you need to book a charter car service.

I only find that some visitors enjoy paid camping at the foot of the Simatai Great Wall, and I guess that wild camping is not allowed.
