Should I pick up the bowl when I eat?

In Japan, we hold a bowl (like rice or soup) with one hand and hold chopsticks in the other. It's polite to pick up the bowl so food won't spill when entering the mouth. In Korea, it's consider rude to pick up the bowl. What about China?

As far as I know, it does not matter. Picking up the bowls depends on you and no one will interfere you.
However, according to my experiences, in most cases, Chinese people do not pick up the bowls when they have meals.

The correct Chinese way of eating rice from a bowl is to bring the bowl to your lips and using the chopsticks to 'usher' the rice directly into the mouth.
