Thinking of Teaching in Yuncheng

Hi I am moving to China and I am thinking of accepting a teaching position there. I would be the only foreign teacher in the school and I was wondering if there is much of an expat population there and what sort of things are there to do there. Example are their any famous markets or local food streets that are worth a visit

It is hard to tell you that whether there are many expats in the city, but I know that many foreign people go there for travel yearly. By teaching there, you can well visit that area then.

As for the shopping place, I know there are Walmart branch, Hualian Group (BHG) branch and many other supermarkets as well as shopping malls in the city. Don't worry!

Well, there is hardly an exclusive food street there, but you can easily find the local food and snacks, such as at Puan Street and South Fenghuang Road.

Hi John, I taught in this city for a year, it was great. Loads of places to shop, not lots of Western type food in the supermarkets, but some have a few Imported Foods. Cheese and butter very hard to come by. Lots of nice parks, mountain walks, bike rides. A fair amount of Foreigners, but scattered around the wider area of the city. They get together quite often but mainly for boozing it up and partying. Lots of us, including me don't go to these events, not every bodies scene, depends on your age and type of lifestyle. Lots of Pool halls, activities on the big square, plenty of cheap buses to everywhere. Great schools and all in all, I loved it. I am still in this area, but now living in a very small town 2 hours away from the city, but go to that about once every six weeks to visit my previous school, students and teachers, and my previous foreign neighbor. Hope this info helps. Be warned though, the locals spit, pee and poo all over the place, so like so many places in China, not the cleanest hygiene around. There is a KFC, Pizza Hut, as well as Paulo's Pizza where some of the foreigners meet and exchange stories. The latter is just across the road from Walmart. Just check exactly where you will be stationed as it is a huge municipal area. You could be up to three hours away from the city depending on where they put you, or you could be in the city. People and traffic noise, especially when you are trying to sleep can be a real bummer, so again be warned. Living costs very cheap.

I am currently a teacher here in yuncheng. There is not alot to do, and not alot of foreigners. I teach in LinYi county just outside the city. It is a simple laid back life with small villages and farms. If you are looking for parties, socialization and persistent nightlife I would look at the bigger cities.
