need to know what to Bring for 7days?

i went to china embassy today with Bank Statement, passport. letter of hotel, return ticket, but they say i must bring a source of income but i did bring bank statement, what i am going to do in china,but im going to visit 7 days. The person even writes in chines what must i bring, how will i read chinese but im african im so disapointed. can you help me please?
