Overnight at Guangzhou on transit flight.

Hi, I will be coming back to Penang from Tokyo and if I fly by China Southern Airlines, there will be a overnight transit at Guangzhou. Do I need a visa for the overnight transit? I will be travelling with my spouse and my two kids.
