About:China Visa Application in USA

I am a US citizen, Do I need an invitation letter for my application a tourist visa to China?

If I need for an invitation letter for my visa application, how this invitation letter should be written? what information should be provided in this letter?I understand it can be sent by a individual Chinese citizen. Would a photo copy of the invitation letter be sufficient for my application?

Invitation letter is not required for tourist visa application if you provide return ticket and hotel reservation. If you prefer to stay with your friend in his/her place, an invitation letter is required (a fax, copy or printout is acceptable).

The invitation letter shall include the following items:
1. Personal information of the invitee: name, gender, date of birth, etc.
2. Information concerning the invitee's visit to China: purpose of the visit, date of arrival and leaving, places to visit, relationship between the applicant and the inviter, and who will bear the cost of the applicant's accommodations in China.
3. Information of the inviter: name of the unit, phone number, address, seal and signature.
In addition, a copy of Chinese ID is required.
