About:Chinese Embassy in Japan

Can I apply for Chinese visa with temporary passport?

Hi,
I would like to stopover at Beijing for 4 days on the way back to Bangkok.
I wonder can I apply for a tourist visa with my temporary passport?
This passport will be expired on March 2014.
