tourist visa penalty

What will happen to me if my flight home to Canada is on the day after my tourist visa expires?

Hi, according to Chinese visa regulation. Penalty for overstay is RMB 500 per day. But you may be exempted from penalty if you meet a kind officer at Immigration. My friend was told to be careful next time without payment for 3 day overstay last year in Shanghai.
