About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

What paperwork do I need for staying no less than 72 hours

I will fly from the US to Shanghai then to Taipei then to Tokyo then back to the US. If I book my stay in Shanghai for less than 72 hours will I only need my US passport and a print out of the tickets to the other counties. Or do I need any other papers.

Every time I have went to Japan or Taiwan I got a tourist Visa upon arrival. So, is there a way to ask for a tourist visa from Taiwan or Japan in advance?

According to my experience, it is not necessary, I think.
But I still suggest you to make a comfirmation by calling the airport custom at 0086-21-51105100. I am sure they can tell you more detail information.
Hope you can arrange everything well before you start your journey and have a nice trip.
