Re Visa requirements for short stay (with cruseline) in China news as of November 15 2012

We are taking a cruise in 2014 start from Hong Kong and the itineries go to Bejing (3 days less than 72 hours)and Shanghai (last stop) and we shall have air ticket back from Shanghai to hong kong on the same date. Do we still have to apply for visa??? as we check onto the new entry requirement, it say if you stay less than 72 hours in Beljing and 53 hours in Shanghai that you do not need visa. We are all holder of Canadian passport and just want to confirm it.
Thank you

Yes, you need to apply for a double entry Chinese visa. The 72 hour visa free transit is for passengers by air only via Beijing and Shanghai for passport holders from 45 coutnries, including Canada.
