About:Chinese Embassies and Consulates

Why the Hongkong immigration officer told me that i am overstay?

Here my employment visa is until April 02,2013 which is stamped in my expired passport { Oct.27,2012} but i was given a new passport last Aug. last year. Upon departure for vacation last Feb.5,2013 the immigration officer told me that i am overstay and immediately stamped on my new passport a Visitor Visa extended on that day. I have a return ticket this month. It worries me and puzzled?

Did you show the immigration officer your old passport with valid employment visa?

Yes.. i did but there might be some misreading regarding the visa date in my old passport which is 02/04/2013 meaning the Day / Month /Year respectively as standard in HongKong but the officer might concluded this way Month/Day/Year so immediately issued me Visitor Visa extended Feb 05,2013 and declaring me as Overstay and the of my departure for vacation. Thank you Again ....

When I renewed my passport due to no more empty space for the immigration stamp, my Chinese Visa was still valid. When I went to the China Consulate, I was requested to re-apply for a new visa which the old visa was cancelled. Probably you need to reapply or get approval from the consulate to use the visa in the old passport.
