About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Doese Non Revenue Passanger qualify for the 72 hours visa-free policy?

My mom works for an airline, which means I'm a non revenue passanger who must fly standby. This means that I would have a seat request, but no actual ticket. I would be flying from Detroit to Shanghai for a connection flight to Tokyo. I would then fly back to Detroit from Tokyo. My stay in Shanghai would be between 0-3 days. Would I run into trouble for not having an actual ticket and only a seat request?

It is hard to say. The regulation is just for visitors. I suggest you to ask the Pudong airport directly by calling 0086-21-51105100. I am sure you can get a satisfied answer.
