About:Kunming Airport

Help with overnight at Kunming airport

My son arrives around midnight on the 20th and his school does not pick-up until 2:30 p.m. on the 21st. Is there a hotel connected to the airport. If not, will he get in trouble if he finds a quiet corner and hangs out until the next afternoon ?? Is there a lounge where he can buy a guest pass and stay in there until time for pick-up ?? Is there a place to check his larger bag until time to go ?? Thank you so much. He is coming over for a semester abroad and we inadvertently made his arrangements one day before classes start.

I know there is a hotel in the airport. It is a little expensive. Besides, there are some hostels in the nearby Changshui Village.

Generally, as long as he has the valid proof such as passport and visa, there will not be any problem in hanging out. It is generally safe, but I suggest not go to quiet places.

About the large luggages, there are Luggage-left Counters in the airport. Don't worry!

thank you soooo much. This truly relieves my worries. We have tried searching for hotels near the airport but can't really tell how close they are or how easy to get to.

He will have 38 hours until the school comes to pick up arriving students. Looks like his plan will be to spend the time in the airport, eating, reading, dozing and working on his tablet in a waiting area. He speaks Chinese and can maybe strike up conversation with shop owners and other folks there. The lounge sounds expensive but might be good for an hour or two to wash up. He can use luggage storage so he doesn't have to drag around all of his wordly belongings.

Hopefully by mid-morning on the 21st, he can identify other arriving students if he waits near the pick-up area.

Does this sounds like an OK plan ? He is a truly wonderful young man and we are very excited about this opportunity. We hate to see him get side tracked or have to burn through limited resources to get through the first 38 hours.
