Visas for cruise ship passengers

!. If the cruise stop is less than 72 hours, does the new rule apply?

2. If there are multiple entries to China via a cruise ship, does the new rule apply to each stop or to the whole cruise?

3. Does it matter which ports in China are used?

Thank you for your assistance, Gerry Fox

Hi, this 72 hour visa-free transit only applies to transit passengers by international flight via Beijing Capital airport, Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Hongqiao International Airport. If you visit China by cruise, you need to apply for a visa in advance. About the entries, it should be based on how many ports in mainland China your cruise will stop.

What if your cruise is leaving out of Shanghai, but only visiting ports in Japan, then returning to Shanghai. The total I would be staying in Shanghai, is 24 hours before the cruise and 12 hours after, then flying home the same day back to Canada. Do I need a Visa for this? Or can I enjoy the 144 visa free policy? Does it only count my day before and after the cruise since I am in Japan the rest of the time. I have a valid passport and all sustaining documents, including hotel accommodation for the 1 night I am in Shanghai, and the flight tickets, and the cruise documents.

SC, so you will fly from Canada to Shanghai, take the cruise to Japan, and then back to Shanghai before going back to Canada? If so, you can take advantage of the 144-hour visa free transit policy.
