About:Visa Policy of China

Visa Type and Procedural Question

Here's my situation: My fiance and I both are from the USA. My fiance is in China for work. I will be getting a vistor visa to make occasional trips to visit until after we are married in October. After that, I will be able to get a work visa since I am an spouse of someone working in China. However...do I need to get a new passport with my name changed prior to getting the new visa...or can I just take my marriage certificate?? Thanks!!

If you plan to change your name, you should apply for a new passport with your new name before applying for the visa.

Here's my concern--if I have to get a new passport that will take 2-4 weeks (even expedited) and then I will have to get a visa (which I should be able to do in the same day) but either way--that puts me delayed 2-4 weeks before I could join my (then) husband in China and ideally I'd like to be able to join him sooner than that!!

Then, I advise you just use your present name, but make sure there are still enough validity on your present passport.
