About:Chinese Zodiac

why is there a difference in chinese signs between the year versus when you include birth date?

When you look at only the year of Chinese zodiac you get a different animal sign to when you include the exact birth date as well? Which is the correct one to use?
example 2004 is Monkey but if include birth date of 11th January 2004 get Sheep. Which one is correct?

Well, Nicola. To some extent, Wendy is right.
What Chinese animal you are depends on the birthday not the year only and the change of zodiac animal depends on the Chinese lunar new year instead of the Gregorian calender.
For example, 11th Jan. 2004 was still in 2013 on Chinese lunar calender. So it is sheep. If after the Chinese New Year, it became the monkey.
I hope it is clear for you now.
