Tourist visa for Shangai

I will be visiting Shangai via a cruise ship for a 2 night stay but will be flying back to the UK, so will I need a
visa?

I would have thought that the free 144 hour visa exemption would apply.
We are flying into SH, staying for 2 days before joining the cruise. Apparently we qualif got the 144 hr visa exemption.
