About:Chinese Consulate in Chicago

Do I need to make an appointment to present my paperwork at the Chicago Chinese Embassy

I now hold my letter on invitation from my intended employer and wish to apply for my Visa at the Chinese embassy in Chicago.. I am an Australian living in the US as a Permanent Resdient (Green Card holder). Do I need to make an appointment to submit my letter and passport or is this on a walk in basis.
