Hi, actually, it is a new combined smart card, not mere Hong Kong Octopus Card. When you get the smart card, it can be used on MTR in the two places. But it can not be used to pay for East Rail between the two destinations.

Hi Lisa,

Thank you for your prompt reply. I will be in Hong Kong on Jan 2013 and I will travel to SZ for few days before I depart from Hong Kong back to Singapore.

So am I right to say that I can buy the Octopus Card from Hong Kong and used in SZ Metro too and I don't need to buy another Shenzhen Tong Card in SZ right?

Thank you for your advice again.

Actually, it is a new card, which you can buy at the MTR stations in both cities. For the smart card, you need deposit in HK MTR Stations and SZ MTR Stations respectively so that you can use it on MTR in the both destinations.

Thanks Lisa.

What is the name of this new card called? How much does it costs if the buy it from Hong Kong MTR station?

If I take the KCR train from Sheung Shui Station Lo Wu Station ( 1 stop only)in Hong Kong, can I still use this new smart card or I need to pay the fare seperately?

Sorry to enquire so much inquiry from you, I hope I am not imposting too much on you.

Wish you a blessed merry christmas & happy new year.

Hi Lisa,

I had found out the new smart card is known as 'Hu Tong Xin' and is HK98.

It has e-purse facility both for the HK dollars & CNY uses in both cities.

Thank you very much for your advice.
