Requirements for obtaining a visa to visit family in China

Dear Sir/Madam
I am a South African citizen working and living in Shenzhen, PR of China. I would like my daughter and her husband to visit me in Shenzhen during February 2013. What are the requirements for them to obtain visitors' visas? If they would need an invitation letter from me could you please send me an example of what this letter should contain. They will not stay in a hotel as I have an apartment big enough for them to stay with me for the entire duration of their stay in Shenzhen. I can forward them a copy of my lease agreement to prove that I have an apartment. I can also provide them with a cpy of my passport and my resident permit in China.

I would appreciate your urgent reply.

Kind regards

Auret van Zyl

You need to send them an invitation letter with personal information of them, such as name, gender, and date of birth, purpose of the visit to China, travel itinerary such as date of entry and exit, places of visit, relationship between you and them and who will bear the expenses. BTW, copies of your passport information page, valid visa or residence permit are required.

Thank you very much Cathy. Is it necessary to provide them a copy of my house rental contract as evidence that I have a place for them to stay?

What other documents will they need to provide for their visas to be issued? If I will take care of all their financial needs while visiting me in China would they need to provide three months' bank statements for instance?

House rental contact is not necessary as I know, but you can write your detailed address, contact number into the invitation letter. If you will shoulder their expenses in China, you may need to send them your bank statement.

Thanks again Cathy. If they provide a bank statement of their own, what amount would be required in the bank account?

If I provide them my bank statements, for how long? What do they look at, the amount physically in the account or the monthly deposits into the account? Because interest rates in SA is much higher than in China I transfer the bulk of my money to SA every month so my Chinese balance is not very high.

As I know, they have to have at least 100 US dollars per day in their account. In other words, if they will stay 10 days, they should have at least 1000 us dollars in their account. Of course, the more the better.

If you send yours, they will consider both the total amount and monthly deposits based on the daily expenses in China.
