Do I need visa if transiting China on Indian Password with Australian Permanent Resident Status

Hi
I am holder of Australian passport and my wife is on Indian Passport (Permanent Resident of Australia). We will be transiting in China for 12 Hour on our way from Sydney to Delhi(India).
Can somebody please advise If myself and my wife need visa to come out of airport for overnight stay in a hotel outside (as there is no hotel inside BAIYUN, GUANGZHOU airport). Thanks

Visa is not required for you both if the stopover is 12 hour only.
