could i go out of airport at pudong on 48 hours transit stay without transit visa?

I am travelling through Pudong Air Port, Do I need the transit Visa to go out of the Air Port for Under 48 Hrs stay.  Please clearify. Thankyou.     Taiyeb Ali

If you hold USA passport, you don't need a visa for a less than 48-hour transit in Shanghai Pudong or Hongqiao Airport, and you are permitted to visit the city during the transit.
