About:Chinese Embassy in U.S.A.

I have a 15 hour layover in Hong Kong on my back to San Francisco from Bangkok.

Do I need a transit visa to stay in the airport in Hong Kong? Would I need a tourist one or transit if I left the airport for a few hours? I have a USA passport

No visa is required for you to HK 90 days. So, don't worry, you can go out the airport during the transit.
