Inquiring for a Chinese Visa if necessary for a transient or connecting flight only

Hi, I am Virgie. a Filipina, I will go to USA but I will pass through Beijing as my connecting flight but I will only stay in Beijing Airport, do I need to get a Chinese Visa? though I will not go out of the Airport and will just stay there for a couple of house while waiting for my flight to San Francisco, USA? My friend said that if I will only stay at Beijing Airport then, there's no need to get a Chinese Visa but for sure, I would like to confirm it with you.
