I hope to visit my partners in March next year for 2 weeks, return home, and then fly out to see him again in late june for 6 weeks or so..

You can apply for a double entry tourist visa L. It is valid for 6 months from issue date. When you submit your application, you should provide proof that you need to visit China twice, so the round-way flight details, travel itinerary, and inviation letter from your partner should be prepared in advance.
