Australian's wanting to apply for a Chinese Visiting visa from Hong Kong, is this possible!

My partner and i are travelling to Hong Kong. We would like to apply for a Chinese visiting visa from Hong Kong to fly to Beijing for The Great Wall for photography,5 nights. We are Australian on Australian pass ports. How long does it take to be approved in Hong Kong???
