About:Chinese Embassy in Japan

Applying On My Behalf/Are Travel Agents Necessary?

I am a Chinese-American living in Sendai, and am unable to go into Tokyo to file my Visa application.

1. Can I have a friend in Tokyo file it for me? If so, what would I need to give him to ensure the process goes smoothly. He would have all the necessary paperwork and passport. (I DO NOT want to go through a travel agent if possible. Do I HAVE to otherwise?)

2. Are copies of the front-and-back of my Alien Registration Card enough, or do I have to obtain a certificate from my local ward office? (aren't they the same)

3. Is the 15,000 yen fee the only fee, or are there other charges?

Thank you so much for your help.

Yes, application can be lodged to the office by your friend, but you need to sign on the application form. Letter of authorization is not required. You may need to send original and copy of your Alien Registration card to your friend. 15,000 Yen is vise fee, no other charges is needed if you just apply with regular processing.

Thank you so much. One more question:

I was told my the Tokyo Embassy that because I live in Sendai, I am NOT allowed to apply at the Tokyo embassy. I have to use the Niigata one, which for all intents and purposes, is really out of the way and a hassle.

Am I really restricted from using the Tokyo embassy?

Hi, this is true. You can only submit your application to Chinese consulate in Niigata which hold consular jurisdiction of Miyagi Prefecture.
