My current visa (type F) 0 entries, expires Oct 6th.  Can I appy for a new visa within China or must I leave and apply somewhere outside the country?  I was going to Hong Kong to apply, but was told this is no longer possible.

You can find yourself a visa agency in China, a qualified agency is able to extend your visa with single, double entry or even multiple. BTW, as I know you can get visa in HK but with only regular 4 days processing. Where did you get this info?
