since I am in Philadelphia and it takes 4 days for processing? Or, must I go back to N.Y. to pick it up?

I'm afraid you have to go back to the visa office in N.Y. to collect the visa yourself or entrust some one else to do it for you, since consulate of China there doesn't accept mail applications or provide mail back service.
