Question about work viza with a prior criminal record in the us

Hello, I may have to travel to China for work. My employer sends people to China all of the time and it goes smoothly. However, I have a felony from about 15 years ago, when I was young. I have since obtained a degree etc., but I worry this may bar entry to China. Do you know what the policy is as far as people who must list on the application they have a criminal record?

Thank you in advance

There is such an item in China visa application form, if you check yes, you will probably be refused visa to China. But if your criminal record 15 years ago was serious, I am not sure if you can get a work permit from China before visa application, because it requires a police clearance or Criminal record form from US.
