About:Shanghai Trains

I've been told that tickets for this train may be bought 2months in advance. Correct?

$142 price is for the private sleeper for two with bathroom from Shanghai to Hong Kong, correct? Not the sleeper car for four people, right?

Yes, you had better buy it 60 days in advance to ensure the availability for the earliest tickets released day. The tickets fare of CNY884/US$142 is for per luxury soft sleeper bunk, which cabin includes 2 bunks with a bathroom.
