Xiamen-Fuzhou-Mawei-Matsu Thank you Mike

I am currently in Xiamen so I would probably be taking a train to Fuzhou. Then I want to go to Matsu and I heard the ferry dock is in Mawei. If it is 1 1/2 hours from Fuzhou to ferry dock I will need to stay the night in Fuzhou I think. I though tthere was one or two ferry boats to Mats per day except Saturday. Do you know what bus would go to ferry dock or nearest to it? Thank you so mcu for your advice.

Yes, you'd better stay in Fuzhou. Fuzhou Liangma Bus Line and bus no. 73 can take you to the ferry terminal.

The daily schedule for ferry service between Fuzhou (Mawei) and Matsu (Nangan) is as follows:
* Nangan→Mawei: 09:40AM
* Nangan→Mawei: 14:00PM
* Mawei→Nangan: 09:15AM
* Mawei→Nangan: 14:00PM
The ferry operates on Saturdays as well.

Did you mean that the Mawei Port in Fuzhou is 1 1/2 hours away from the train station? There are two railway stations, and the South Station is closer to Mawei Port. From the other railway station, the journey shouldn't take 1 1/2 hours if you take a taxi. But since the last ferry departs from Mawei to Matsu at 2PM, any arrival into Fuzhou after 12 noon woould likely require an overnight stay in Fuzhou.

I'll be travelling to Fuzhou by ferry from Matsu/Taipei. Any package available from Taipei? I'll be flying from Taipei to Matsu. Should I take train/bus from Mawei into the city centre? How long will it take? Thanks!!

Hi Ms. JAMW,

There is no train from Mawei into Fuzhou, but you can take Bus No. 73 from Mawei to Wuyi Guangchang (五一广场) in the center of Fuzhou. From there, you'll be able to take a lot of other buses to wherever you need to be, or you'll be able to take a taxi pretty easily and cheaply to most areas (as long as it's not 5 PM) - if you can't speak Chinese, just have your location written down in Chinese and the driver will take you there. (Taxi drivers in Fuzhou seem to be pretty honest, so you won't have to worry about being taken for a joyride; anything under 40 RMB would be reasonable, I think.) The bus should be 1 RMB, coin or note.

Please tell me if you've had success with the ferry! I'm planning on taking the ferry in the opposite direction very soon, and would really appreciate some confirmation that it's okay to use (and that it's still running!).

From what I've seen on the internet, there is not package from Taipei to Matsu to Fuzhou. Apparently, there is a ferry from Keelung (but not everyday?) which may or may not get you to Matsu in time for the ferry to Fuzhou. That ferry should take about ten hours, I'm told. The easiest way from Taipei seems to be to fly to Matsu and then continue by ferry.

Please let me know how the ferry journey goes!!

Best, Jack.
