If the travel document is issued by the Australian department of foreign affairs, I'm sure you will be granted with a China business visa.

If the Australian department of foreign affairs could issue a document for you, I think you go to China for official or public affairs, so the thing is different from those private businesses. Then you may not need the invitation letter from China. But if you can also get an invitation letter from an authorized unit of China, that would be much helpful for your China visa application.
