Yes, there are many cafes and bars in the Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 in the airport and you friend can stay there to wait for you.
The free Wifi covers the whole airport, so you do not worry about it.
If you want go to Macau from the HKIA, the best way is to take the ferry from the Skypier to Macau directly. It will cost you 233 HK$ for common seat and per person. There is no more charge on the luggage.
If you go back from Macau to HK, you can take the ferry to reach the Hong Kong-Macau Ferry Terminal, which is close to Chungking Mansion. The tiket fee is 140 HK$ for ordinary seats in weekdays. When in holidays and weekends, the fee is 152 HK$ and 174 HK$ at night.
I hope it is clear for you and hope you can enjoy the trip in Macau and HK.
