Can apec card be used in south yunnan?

I have an apec card which i use to travel to china on business. But now i want to go to south yunnan from vietnam, do i need to apply for china visa? I am afraid that the china immigration there may not accept my apec card because that area is not a big city like others in china. Please advise.
