Do we need Group Transit visa in Beijingwithin 48 hours?

We have a connecting flight from NewYork to Beijing to Philippines. Unfortunately , the Beijing flight going to Phil was change and we need to stay within 48 hours in the airport/hotel within. Do we need to get a visa just to saty for 48 hours? and what type. We are family of three, 2 adults and 1 child ( 3yrs of age) and canadian citizen. Please advise.
