You can apply for your visa extension at local PSB asap. Documents needed are your passport, current visa, a letter of the reason for your request supporting your need to extend your Chinese visa; the visa-extension form from PSB, temporary residence permit in China. Sometimes, you are required to provide financial support for further stay. It is better to ask a Chinese friend to go with you as a translator.
