Transit Visa for Guangzhou

Hi, I am planning a trip that has a 15-hr overnight stopover in Guangzhou. I am wondering if I will be eligible for a transit visa to leave the airport, without applying for a visa before my trip. I know this is possible in Beijing and Shanghai, but I'm not sure about Guangzhou. I have a USA passport. Thanks!
