Can I apply for a 1/2 year tourist Visa

I am planning to visit a few friends and family and to see a few places in China. Can I apply for a 1/2 year tourist vasa at all? On the visa application form, should I tick on two entries valid for 6 months from application? Does this mean I need to go out of China once and go in again?

1/2 yearis for multiple visa only. You can have a try to apply for a double entry tourist visa. And you need to exit and reenter China if you get double entry visa. If you have no plan to visit other country, leaving for HK or Macao is ok.
