About:Chinese Embassy in Japan

I am flying from Tokyo to India with a 4 hour stop over in shanghai and 23 hours in kunming.

Does anybody know if I need a Chinese visa, as I'm taking this one domestic flight from Shanghai to Kunming (and the other way round on the return flight). Also, do you know if it is possible to leave the airport, or at least find a hotel for the 23 hour layover?

You need to apply for a transit visa in advance.
